Jupiter Community High School Band Presents World-Famous Composer and Conductor Johan De Meij
Jupiter High School Music Director Ryan Ross, announced the final concert of the 2021-2022 Jupiter High School Concert Band and Wind Symphony Season will feature Dutch Composer and Conductor Johan de Meij, an award-winning composer and world-famous for his Symphony No. 1 The Lord of the Rings. Johan de Meij with work with Jupiter High School Student Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony as a composer in residence in the days leading up to their final performance at 6 pm on Friday, April 22, 2022.
Johan de Meij was awarded the prestigious Sudler Composition Prize and has been recorded by myriad ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra, The Netherlands Orchestra, The Nagoya Philharmonic, and The Amsterdam Wind Orchestra.
His Symphony No. 2 The Big Apple, Symphony No. 3 Planet Earth, Symphony No. 4 Sinfonie der Lieder as well as his solo concertos, T-Bone Concerto (trombone), UFO Concerto (euphonium), and Casanova (cello) have been enthusiastically received at many of the world’s finest venues.
At the event, Maestro de Meij will be giving a presentation about his experience as a composer and will discuss original ideas and sketches from his work Symphony No. 1- Lord of the Rings with audio samples, original sketches, and a question and answer session. Following his presentation, Maestro de Meij will dazzle the audience as he conducts a night of music performed by Jupiter High School Wind Symphony and Chorus.
The Jupiter High School Symphonic Band, conducted by Ryan Ross will perform Ratatouille Satirique, Clair De Lune, Featuring Mr. Manny Camacho, Trombone, and Downtown Divertimento. The Jupiter High School Wind Symphony conducted by Maestro Johan de Meij selections include Jupiter Hymn (From the Planets), Los Cuatro Vientos (Four Winds for Winds), Celtic Classics, African Harmony, with the Jupiter High School Chorus, and Symphony No 1 The Lord of the Rings: Hobbits. A silent auction will follow the performance and concessions will be available for patrons.
